And to top it all off, you get to ride a helicopter back from

Comprehensive Overview

This itinerary takes a total of seven days to complete and begins with a flight to Lukla. The scenic flight actually takes place from Ramechhap, which is about 3-4 hours drive away from Kathmandu. The flight is a short one but definitely will have your heart pounding from excitement as the pilot makes a landing on a literal cliff. After landing at the airport in Lukla, we begin our hike, which is only a few hours and is mostly downhill and reach our destination of the day, Phakding.

The path is well maintained, taking you through the verdant hill that is covered with forests of oaks and rhododendrons. The second day will see you through similar trails but crossing a few more suspension bridges and making a way for the mules carrying goods up to the village. And one of the most notable landmarks of this trek is the Hillary Bridge, made to commemorate the first successful summiters of Everest. The trails are dusty yet pleasing as we make our way to a famous Sherpa village known as Namche Bazaar. We will be staying an extra day to let our body adjust to the altitude and the low level of oxygen as we go up. It is part of the acclimatization process to avoid altitude sickness. This can be an optional part and you can carry on to your next destination, but doing acclimatization will be better.

Then we resume our trek the next day and our rest stop is a very spiritual place. Tengboche, which houses the Tengboche Monastery, the largest and one of the oldest monastery in the Khumbu region, is a place that has rich cultural integrity. The view of the mountains, such as Ama Dablam, Kang Tega, Lhotse, and of course Mount Everest, are also major highlights of this day. After visiting the monastery, we will settle in a humble tea house for the night.

The following day, we continue our hike, and we will visually start to notice the change in landscape. The tall and dark trees begin to shorten in size as the trail ascends. The views become better and better as we reach Dingboche.

On the sixth day, we trek to Lobuche and we are one step closer to our ultimate goal, which is reaching the Everest Base Camp. The day goes by pretty fast and we get to see a gorgeous view of the Pumori Peak from Lobuche as well as the Lobuche Peak. Then the next day we hike from Lobuche to Gorak Shep and, of course, to the most-awaited Everest Base Camp. Once you reach the base camp, you will be surrounded by some of the tallest peaks in the entire world.

The rocky and icy path makes this trek even more special, as you witness the Khumbu Glacier and Khumbu icefall before your very eyes. The seven days will be all worth the wait. After exploring the Everest Base Camp, we will return back to Gorakshep, from where we will take a short helicopter ride back to Lukla. The ride back will offer you the noble opportunity to see the aerial view of the mountain ranges in the region, Mount Everest in particular. Your Everest Base Camp journey has come to an end after 7 days of adventure. The next day, you will take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu.

What makes the Everest Base Camp Trek of 7 days with a helicopter worth it in 2025/2026?

Mount Everest and Other Exceptional Mountains

Trekking to the Everest Base Camp comes with all sorts of adventure and also some of the most perfect views of the mountains as one would expect. Mountains like Mt. Everest (8,848.86 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), Cho Oyu (8,201 m), Mt. Makalu (8,463 m), Pumori (7,161 meters), Thamserku (6,623 meters), Kangtega (6,782 meters), Kusum Kanguru (6,367 meters), and Kongde Ri (6,187 meters), and other equally beautiful peaks make this trek the best experience. This package in particular will give you an even better chance of viewing the mountains from your helicopter ride back to Lukla. The aerial views of the mountain ranges of Khumbu are something not a lot of people get to experience. So, make every minute count.

Sherpa Town of Namche Bazaar

One of the best experiences of trekking to the mountains is getting the chance to interact with the local communities. While you will get the opportunity to get yourself familiar with the locals along the trail, Namche Bazaar holds a special place for trekkers. The village of Namche is famous for its Sherpa community but also for the rich history of mountaineering and trade.

The picturesque village lies just under the snow capped peaks and has a unique architecture that makes your heart fill with joy when you explore the area. Being the gateway to Everest, it is the most popular Sherpa village in Nepal. The village is also known to have many modern amenities and services.

Connect Spiritually to Tengboche Monastery (3,810 meters)

Tengboche Monastery is one of the oldest and largest monasteries in the entire Khumbu region. Also known as Dawa Choling Gompa, it is a spiritual and sacred space for the followers of Tibetan Buddhism. The building of the monastery itself is designed beautifully, with intricate art filling the walls and ceilings. You can feel the spiritual connection upon entering the area with its peaceful and calm ambience.

The monastery also offers some of the most amazing views of Ama Dablam as well. The area is large, and you can make rounds around the monastery to fulfill your spiritual journey.

Experience Nature and encounter Wildlife.

The Everest Base Camp trail goes within the Sagarmatha National Park, which is listed under the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Not only is it rich in biological diversity, it is also home to numerous rare and endangered species of flora and fauna. The spring season welcomes you with warm weather and, most of all, the full bloom of the rhododendrons. You might also get a chance to see some wildlife along the way, including lophophorus, Himalayan thar, red panda, musk deer, yellow-billed chough, and many other species.

What is the best time to do the 7-day Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter return?

Being in the right place at the right time is very important in order to enjoy the trek experience to the fullest. So, for this particular package, the best time to do this trek is only during spring (March, April, and May) and autumn (September, October, and November). These two seasons are considered to be the best time to do trekking in the mountains. Spring (March-May) has temperatures ranging from -5 to 0 °C during the day and -10 to -15 °C at night, while autumn/fall (October-November) has daytime temperatures ranging from 0 to -5 °C and nighttime temperatures falling to -4 to -20 °C.

The spring and autumn seasons are perfect for trekking because not only will you get to see clear-shot views of the mountains under the azure blue sky, but also the temperatures will be moderate and you will not have to worry about extreme cold, snowfall, and rainfall, which makes it the right time for a helicopter ride from Gorak Shep back to Lukla.

Itinerary

In the early morning, around 1-2 am, you’ll be picked up from the hotel for your flight to Lukla. After a short 3-hour ride to the airport, you will find yourself fastening your seatbelt in the plane as it takes off to the mountains. On your short, dramatic flight, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest. As soon as you land at the Lukla airport, you will be surprisingly rewarded by the beautiful surrounding mountains, where you will meet the local Sherpas and begin the trek to Phakding for today's 4-hour walk.

The trek from Lukla towards Phakding is a standard and easy move, following the Dudh Kosi River through pine and cedar woods to the first camp of Phakding. Spend our first night of the trek on the mountain at the handful of exceptional tea houses here in Phakding and have a great dinner.

  • Trekking Distance: 7.5 kilometers
  • Accommodation: Khumbu Lodge/ Similar
  • Time: 35 minutes flight and 3 hours, approximately
  • Meals: Lunch+ Dinner (Included)
  • Max Elevation: 8,563 feet (2,610 meters)

Our trek begins after a hearty breakfast to give us energy to trek till we reach our next destination. The trek to Namche Bazaar from Phakding is a beautiful one, as you get to walk through the verdant trails leading in through the forest of oaks and rhododendrons. Occasionally, you will pass some villages, small monasteries, prayer-inscribed walls, and, of course, the famous Hillary Bridge.

After walking a few hours from Phakding, you will arrive at a gate from where you will be officially entering the Sagarmatha National Park. You will slowly notice the gain in elevation as the route becomes more and more uphill. But with preservation and determination, during the last push before reaching the Namche Bazaar, you will arrive at a small resting spot at what seems to be a hilltop, known as Top Danda, and from here you will see your very first glimpse of Mount Everest.

And after 6-7 hours of hiking and taking breaks for lunch and tea in between, you will finally arrive at the very well-known village of Namche Bazaar. Reaching Namche Bazaar is another highlight of the day for today; explore a beautiful trade center in the Himalayas. This is the last point where you can get the last chance to check your equipment and hire any additional gear for the high altitudes. If you want to see nightlife or take a pool hall in the mountains, then Namche Bazaar is still for you, and it is the last chance to enjoy it.

  • Trekking Distance: 9.4 kilometers

  • Accommodation: Sakura Lodge/ Similar
  • Hiking hrs: 6-7 hrs approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner (Included)
  • Max elevation: 11,290 feet (3,440 meters)

Acclimatization is a crucial part of the trekking experience, no matter where you are. You have to make sure that your body gets used to the elevation gain and the lower level of oxygen. Staying an extra day in the same location might seem like a waste of time, but it is actually preventing you from experiencing bad situations. That being said, if you feel like you are in good condition and have previous experiences of trekking to the mountains, you can skip this part and move on to the next destination as well. But keep in mind that altitude sickness can happen to anyone at any time. So, it is better to stay an extra day rather than hampering your health, which might cost you the entire trip.

And to explain further about the acclimatization day, you will not be staying at the Namche Bazaar the entire day. In fact, we will go on a little day hike, our first destination being the Hotel Everest View, at an elevation of 3880 meters, which makes it the highest hotel in the world. It is the perfect place to get the panoramic views of Mount Everest and other beautiful peaks, including Ama Dablam. From here we will move to visit the Khumjung Village, which is another beautiful Sherpa village but is not as commercially famous as Namche Bazaar, so it is more peaceful and calm. After exploring the village, we make our way back to the hotel and you can spend the rest of the remaining time either exploring Namche or simply resting in your room.

  • Distance: 5 Kilometers

  • Accommodation: Sakura Lodge/ Similar
  • Trekking hrs: 2 hrs approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner (Included)
  • Max elevation: Hotel Everest View (13,000 feet, or 3,880 meters), Khumjung Valley (12,430feet, / 3,790 meters)

Our journey to the top continues and we climb even higher today. We begin our hike after breakfast. The first part of the trek is an uphill climb as it slowly mellows out later on. Today in particular is a very scenic trek, as the views of mountains will be there to guide you through. You’ll enjoy the close-up front mountain views of Thamserku, Kantega, Ama-Dablam, Kusungkangru, Phortse Peak, as well as Mount Everest and Lhotse in the distance.

Trekking through the alpine forest, you will feel a sense of serenity and being close to nature. If you are lucky, you might also get to see some wild birds and animals along the way. And around late afternoon, you will reach Tengboche. You will come across the Tengboche Monastery before you reach the tea house. So, you can rest your backpack and explore around the monastery before checking in. The intricate design of the monastery will enthrall you and make you feel the semblance of its spiritual power. There will be monks around meditating or just going on about their duty. During the evening, you can experience the live ceremony performed by the monks. Then you can return to your tea house and call it a night.

  • Trekking Distance: 9.2 kilometers

  • Accommodation: Lodge
  • Trekking hrs: 5-6 hrs approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner (Included)
  • Max. Elevation: 12,664 feet (3,860 meters)

A brand new day and a brand new adventure. As usual, we will eat breakfast, then continue on our hike till we reach the destination of the day. The path today will not have steep uphill climbs like previous days but you will still have a significant elevation gain. Moving alongside the Imja River and Ama Dablam to your right, the trek today is serene and peaceful. We pass the village of Debuche and cross an exciting bridge with a roaring Imja Khola beneath our feet and take an ascent. From here, the trail becomes gradually uphill to the Pangboche and Somare villages, where we take lunch before heading towards Dingboche. The course we follow from Somare is a gradual flat level that takes us along a path that hugs the valley wall and then across vast plains to a split in the valley.

Upon reaching Dingboche, you can notice the change in the landscapes. Where in the previous days and even earlier in the day you would pass through the lush green forest of oaks and pines, the hills surrounding Dingboche only have short shrubby bushes. This not only indicates how far you have made it but also the gain in altitude as you stand at 4,410 meters above sea level.

Note: On a standard itinerary, Dingboche serves as a second place for acclimatization, so if you have a flexible itinerary, staying here an extra day for acclimatization is recommended.

  • Trekking Distance: 10.2 kilometers

  • Accommodations: Good luck Lodge/similar
  • Trekking hrs: 5-6 approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner (Included)
  • Max. Elevation: 14,469 feet (4,410 meters)

Today we get even closer to our ultimate destination. The landscapes are more of rocks and snow capped peaks surrounding you than the lush green forests. The staggering ascent takes us from 4000 meters to 5000 meters, which indicates we are getting nearer to our goal. The trail is a gradual climb on a broad alpine valley that is fascinated by the views of Ama-Dablam, Lhotse, Phortse Peak, and Cholatse, until we reach Dughla, where you have the option to take a snap or lunch before we climb towards the Lobuche.

The hike before Dhugla is fairly easy, considering you will only be walking on plain land but gradually the trail changes to a rocky path as we reach Dhugla, where there is a memorial built for the climbers who lost their lives during the expedition. From this point to Labuche is about another 30 minutes following the gentle trail. You will be rewarded by the magnificent mountain ranges of Pumori, Lhotse, Nuptse, Lobuche Peak, and many more overnight at Lobuche with exceptional food.

  • Trekking Distance: 8.2 kilometers

  • Accommodation: Oxygen Lodge/ Similar
  • Hiking hrs: 5-6 approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner (Included)
  • Max. Elevation: 16,109 feet (4,910 meters)

Finally! It is the most anticipated day of the entire trek and of course our day begins with a hearty breakfast as usual. We leave Lobuche as we join the trail that leads us to the Everest Base Camp. After an hour of trekking, you will reach the Lobuche pass at 5110 meters. From here to Gorakshep, walking through the moraine rocks takes another hour. Reaching Gorakshep, take some good rest while taking our lunch or snacks; after a short relaxation, we start trekking to the Everest base camp, the journey's final destination. The trail to the base camp will be full of trekkers during the peak season and must move on as traffic affects even the mountain. The course is more straightforward, but some trails are challenging over the glaciers, so make sure you are walking with strong steps, avoiding falling down.

After reaching the Everest Base Camp, you can explore around and click as many pictures as you’d like to capture this prosperous victory of reaching at one of the highest points on earth and, of course, reaching the gateway to Mount Everest. Being surrounded by some of the tallest peaks in the world will have you feeling a sense of accomplishment. After exploring the base camp, we will trace our way back to Gorakshep, where our helicopter will be waiting for us to give a ride back to Lukla.

The flight back will provide you with the perfect opportunity for magnificent aerial views of the mountains. It will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. During this dramatic mountain flight, you will have a great chance to be close-up with these magnificent mountains; there is no camera zoom needed to take pictures of these magical mountains, and the scenic flight takes you back to Lukla, where you will have an outstanding evening spending at the best accommodations with the best foods. It's a blessed moment for you, so you can enjoy your last day here with the best moment possible, enjoying the local foods, visiting local places, or celebrating the success with your team members.

Note: If you also want to visit Kala Patthar, you can stay the night at Gorak Shep and visit there the next morning. After your visit to Kala Patthar, you can then ride the helicopter back to Lukla.

  • Accommodation: Northface Lodge/Similar Lodge
  • Hiking hrs: 6-7 hours in total, approx
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner (Included)
  • Max. Elevation: Gorak Shep (16,814 feet, / 5,125 meters); Lukla (8,563 feet, or 2,610 meters) Distance: 12 kilometers (including round trip)

Enjoy an excursion breakfast at Lukla before heading back to Kathmandu; today we have a short flight back to Kathmandu, where our journey ends with many beautiful experiences. Trip Info

Is trekking to the 7-Day Everest Base Camp with helicopter return difficult?

The difficulty of the Everest Base Camp Trek is considered a moderately challenging trek as it requires quite a bit of physical and mental strength. While the trek can be done by beginners too, having prior trekking experience in the mountains certainly helps a lot. Completing a trek that takes around two weeks in half that time, you need to be aware of certain things, such as altitude sickness and hiking the rugged landscapes.

The helicopter return from Gorak Shep will definitely make the trip back infinitely easier. The hiking up to the base camp part is the one that will be challenging. Ascending up to above 5000 meters does take a lot of strength, energy, and determination. One of the main things to keep in mind is altitude sickness. The higher you ascend, the lower the oxygen level.

What is the distance of the 7 days of the Everest Base Camp Trek with helicopter return?

The distance of the Everest Base Camp Trek from Lukla to the base camp is 65 kilometers and the round trip is 130 kilometers. Your daily trek distance ranges from 10–15 kilometers, which is about 6-7 hours of hiking per day on average. But since we will be returning via a helicopter ride from Gorak Shep, we can cover the distance that takes 3-4 days to cover within 15-20 minutes. It is the best perk of doing a helicopter return; you can relax and enjoy the ride back with the amazing aerial views of the mountains.

Lukla Flight and Helicopter Return Information

The flight to Lukla during spring and autumn only operates from Ramechhap airport and not the Tribhuvan airport in Kathmandu due to high air traffic during this time. The Ramechhap airport is 3-4 hours away from Kathmandu, which is why you will wake up as early as 1-2 am and leave for the airport to arrive just in time for your flight.

The helicopter ride is just 15 minutes long from Gorak Shep and one of the most beautiful and thrilling experiences of this trip. But please keep in mind that a plane or helicopter flight depends on good weather. As the weather in mountains can sometimes be very unpredictable, there are always chances of flight cancellations in case of bad weather.

Similarly, your helicopter ride for returning can also be delayed because of bad weather. But unlike flights, which only operate from 6 am to 10 am, the helicopter flight operates till 5 pm in the evening. But in any case, we suggest you have an extra day at your disposal so you can have a flexible trek.

Accommodation during the 7 Days EBC Trek with Helicopter Return

The options for accommodation during the EBC trek are of basic standard. The places such as Lukla and Namche Bazaar will offer you various services and amenities but will cost you extra money. But a basic accommodation tea house provides you with a room with twin beds, a mattress, and blankets with dinner and breakfast. These facilities become even more basic as you ascend to higher locations such as Lobuche or Gorakshep.

Places at lower altitudes have hydroelectricity, but the upper region uses solar energy for electricity, so charging your devices will also cost you extra money along with hot drinking water.

Meal Options during the 7 Days EBC Trek with Helicopter Return

Having a good diet during the trek is very important, as it helps your body get energy for the rigorous trek. Your package with our company provides you with three meals a day, which include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so anything aside from this, you will have to pay by yourself. The menu offers a variety of food but we recommend you stick with the local meal, such as dal bhat for lunch and dinner. It is generally best to avoid meat during the trek. You can also have western meals such as pasta, spaghetti, etc. Just make sure you eat nutritious food that will give you the required energy to trek for hours per day.

What should I pack for the Everest Base Camp Trek?

It is important to pay close attention to what you pack when trekking in the mountains. Never forget that a comfortable trekking experience is guaranteed with appropriate clothing and equipment. Knowing what to bring on your trek is therefore essential, and we have made it simpler for you by offering a packing list.

Additionally, since laundry facilities may not be accessible at high elevations, bring extra clothing for your journey; the clothes will not dry quickly because of the cold temperature.

Altitudes in the Himalayas of Nepal definitely demand excellent stamina, tough determination, and the best health condition. Some sections of the trek are quite demanding and some days might even require 5-7 hours of walking.

Although the trek to the Everest Base Camp is considered moderate and easily attainable, it is no walk in the park.

Moreover, the good news is that no technical skill is required to plan your trek or any other exploratory trips in Nepal. However, your prior hiking experience will definitely be considered a plus point. A few months of regular exercise including walking and jogging is recommended before the trip to build up the required stamina.

Hi there!!Just on my way back down from the most incredible experience in getting to Everest base camp. Prem, my tour guide pushed me through bad weather, cancelled flights, food poisoning and altitude sickness but we got there!! A life changing couple of weeks which wouldn’t have been possible with out prem and the team at alpine ramble.

I just got back from this amazing life-changing adventure with Alpine Ramble Trekking! Don’t think twice and just go experience it. It is challenging but worth every step. With the help of my wonderful guide Arpan and porter Suk I accomplished a trip that will live in my heart, soul and memories til I’m old and gray…

“My brother, sister, and I decided to embark on the adventure of a lifetime and travel to Nepal. We went through Alpine Ramble to reach Everest Base Camp, and we could not have been in better hands. Every detail of the trip was taken care of, and the team was thorough and thoughtful in planning out our adventure so that we would have the ultimate experience. Our food and accommodations (even snacks!) were thoughtfully planned, and we had the opportunity to go on an extra hike to see spectacular views of Everest at sunset. Wow!! We were treated to a special ethnic dinner upon our return to the city--the experience could not have been more unique and special. Incredible!!!”

Overall a great experience. Dil was incredibly helpful and responsive from the very beginning helping us plan all of the details of our trip and coordinated private transportation for us when we arrived in Nepal. Laxman, our guide for our 8 day EBC trek, was awesome. He was extremely knowledgeable about the park and truly took care of us throughout our entire trek. Couldn’t have asked for a better guide and experience!

“I did the Everest Base Camp Trek from the 15.02. to the 27.02. with the organization Alpine Ramble. When I arrived in Kathmandu the boss of the organization (Dil) and my guide (Sujal) picked me up at the airport in Kathmandu. From this point on you, don't have to care about anything. They bring you to the hotel and on the next day, you start your trek. In total, you have to walk for 11 days. 8 days up, 3 days down. During the trek, you sleep in very comfortable lodges. I always had a single room because of the lower frequentation on the trek in the winter months. In these lodges, you can choose from a wide range of dishes. My guide Sujal was a great guide. He was very well informed about the Himalayas which means he could tell me everything about each mountain on the trek. During the trek, he always took care of me. He had the right medicine for each problem you can have in the mountains. In the recovery times, in our accommodations, we played cards and had some good conversations. We had a lot of fun. After the trek I had dinner with Dil and Sujal in Kathmandu where they talk with you about your trek and if they could fulfill your expectations. Before I left Nepal I was for 2 days in Chitwan. Dil organized and paid the bus for me, which was not included in our contract. Both guys are very professional. Their first goal is to give you a great experience on your trek and in Nepal. To summarize - everything was great. I am looking forward to doing the next trek with this great team.”
